Preliminary Exercise 3 A: Introduction to Mise en scene Codes Organizer
Mise-En-scene is the stage design and arrangement of actors in scenes for a theatre or film production, both in visual arts through storyboarding, visual theme, and cinematography, and in narrative storytelling through direction. Mise -En is important in film because you use it to analyze everything in the scene using codes and conventions. Codes can be visual, symbolic, technical, auditory, and written. Codes are usually predictable forms and techniques used by producers in different media text, they communicate different ideas. The elements of mise En scene are Color, Setting, Acting, lighting, composition, Set Design, Costume and makeup. Color can affect then mood of a scene. The lighting leads the eye to specific actor or props. Acting refers to human representation of a character. Composition refers how a scene is arranged. Set design is the physical the actors act on. Costume and make up is the hair and clothes then characters wear within the movie.
