Preliminary Exercise Lampoon European journey Part B

Image
The surrounding elements of the place  The cuture of the setting of the scene is quite exident. Everyone in England has an accent, and they drive cars on the left side of the road. I know this because of the cars driving on the left side of the road in the scene and the people from the area that spoke with an accent in the scene. The area they are in is under a social hierarchy. My reason for knowing this is because the clothing, word choice and vehicle they were driving in the scene. One of the people the family encountered drove a red car with no scratches, wore sit, and used in offensive term whilst conversating. Another drove a car that had a little dent, wore khaki pants, a sweater over a shirt and tie, and was polite. The last person they encountered wore a hat, a coat, a shirt and tie, with dark colored pants, was overly polite to the point he was ignorant of his injurles and rode a bike. The mood of the scene was very welcoming.  The reason for the scene giving a...

Genre in film are the categories that we put film such as horror, comedy, action and etc. There are also hybrid genres which a mixture of two different genre. A subgenre is an element of a main genre example slasher and gothic are subgenres of horror. Genre is important because it lets the audience know what type of film, they will end up watching letting them know what type of films they like so when a new film comes, the audience will watch it if they like a certain genre. I have three major genres that I like a lot first being adventure, Second action, and lastly comedy. I like adventure because of the journey they usually have they also very beautiful scenes because they almost always take place somewhere outside. I like action because of the fighting scenes they are really cool to me they also look very good they have many visual codes to keep you engaged. Comedy the reason I love comedy because its beings joy to the audience the people are laughing, and the movies are very e...

Preliminary Exercise 4: Analyzing Setting for National Lampoon's European Vacation PowerPoint Presentation

Image
The setting of the Lampoons European vacation is in England. One characteristic of the film is that the movie is heavily implied to take place in 1980s because of the car used. Another characteristic is the time of day which is most likely in the afternoon because of the skylight. One more characteristics  The geography is town-like because there are small buildings (not like the ones in a city) with brick fences surrounding the perimeter and a decent amount of grass in the area. The setting is important because it helps understand details and story and where it takes place. The objective of the excerise was to anaylze the characteristics of the clip of lampoon's European vacation. The film takes place when   After winning a European vacation on a game show, Clark Griswold (Chevy Chase) convinces his reluctant family to accompany him. Introduction to Semiotics Preliminary Exercise 1

Image
Working on projects with other students has helped me detect connotations and denotations more accurately. For instance, my collaborator Shadlikethat and I were tasked with making a poster that featured illustrations of numerous symbols. We had to consider the various connotative implications that each image might have. A black cat was one of the icons we used on our poster. Black cats are considered a sign of bad luck in some cultures and a symbol of death in others. We had to decide how to include these many connotations in our poster after taking them into account. I was able to observe through this activity how several meanings can be attached to the same image and how those meanings may alter depending on the situation. In general, investigating semiotics and learning about connotation and denotation have improved my understanding of how words and symbols are used to express meaning.
